What this paper examines
Shin and Chan explore online participation in distance education and students’ sense of connection with their institution. Their analysis uses achievement, satisfaction and intention to continue as different outcome measures. The paper examines both direct and mediated relationships, including the idea of institutional transactional presence. It is useful for distinguishing access to an online environment from the experience of feeling supported by an institution.
